Pyotr had the man beheaded, the head placed in a jar, and as punishment forced Catherine to look at it. This is the song of that, sung from the alternating perspectives of Pyotr and the head. In the end Catherine would become Empress in her own right upon his death, setting a precedent for female rule that led to Catherine the Great. So, at least there’s that.
